You’d be forgiven for thinking that football was the only sport to be enjoyed in Manchester, but this winter you can see that the great rivalry between two of the world’s greatest football teams is just scratching the surface of the amazing sporting spectacles to be had in this great Northern city. There are some great value hotels in Manchester to stay in if you need somewhere to rest your head after a trip to see the action, so there’s no need to miss out on any of the following fantastic events this winter.
The Manchester Velodrome is home to the UK Track Racing Team and is where Team GB trained before achieving great success in the London 2012 Olympics. This January it hosts three out of five rounds of Revolution 41, the first elite cycling event to take place there since the London 2012 Olympics. This thrilling indoor racing session will hope to recapture the same enthusiasm for cycling shown during London 2012 and British riders will be out to emulate their success and show the world their passion for this fantastic sport.
Rugby League World Cup
On November 30th, the Old Trafford Football Stadium will be hosting an all-together different sporting event. Instead of the famous Red Devils taking to the turf for another Premier League bout, out will come the finalists of the Rugby World Cup to battle it out for the ultimate prize in world rugby. You can expect a high adrenaline match with no holds barred as the teams go all out to close their outstretched hands on the ultimate glory at the pinnacle of their sport.
These are just two of the great sports to see in Manchester this winter, so whatever your favoured game, you’re likely to find a great spectacle awaiting you in a truly diverse city of sport.Published in
